Welcome
Historic Joinery Yorkshire
Masters in Woodturning & Bench Joinery for over 30 years.
Welcome to Historic Joinery Yorkshire. We provide historic joinery services to clients across the UK from our Yorkshire base to support the maintenance and preservation of heritage buildings.
Architectural structures and fittings made from timber suffer deterioration and damage over time but through the application of professional historic joinery techniques building fixtures and fittings can be expertly restored.
Historic building structural timber repairs and the repair of wood fittings and furniture often requires the bespoke woodturning and joinery skills only master craftsman hold. As a Guild of Master Craftsmen member, we have the necessary skills and accreditation needed to carry out this type of work.
We specialise in historic bench joinery, woodturning, furniture making and cabinetmaking. In most cases we can restore woodwork to aesthetically blend in with original features or we can craft replacements to what currently exists, adding protection for the years ahead.
Whether you require the skills of a master craftsman to carry out minor historic joinery repairs or you have a comprehensive timber restoration project to undertake, we have the industry knowledge, expertise and experience to meet your needs and support you.
And there is no charge for our advice. Please feel free to contact our master craftsman, Daniel Fitzpatrick, for a no obligation chat.

Traditional historic joinery techniques like wood turning and cabinet making are dying trades. We are amongst the few remaining masters of these crafts and we have become keepers of the knowledge, ensuring these skills are accessible for future generations to learn. Only through our passion and dedication do we retain this close connection with the past. Daniel welcomes your call on 01484 666 333, to discuss your historic joinery project. Or contact us by email.

Inspection & Assessment
Our heritage joinery process begins with an on site examination where possible and practical, to assess the scope of work prior to forming a planned approach. The careful removal and transportation of pieces to our workshop is an option where necessary.
Restoration & Repairs
We offer paint stripping services to facilitate the removal of existing paint and coatings if needed. Decay treatments can be applied. Where appropriate we source matching timbers to enable the manufacture of bespoke replacement parts, by woodturning or bench joinery, such as wood turned spindles and pilasters.

Refurbishment & Decoration
Originality is maintained wherever possible through refurbishment and redecoration. Newly created parts and pieces can be decorated to match maintaining originality. Existing ironmongery is reused when possible. We have the equipment and processes in house to strip and recoat all types of metalwork.
Installation, Conservation & Preservation
All heritage joinery components are treated appropriately preserving against the weather and reducing wear and tear, before setting the completed pieces in place according to sound conservation practice.

Ecology & Environment
Use of Sustainable Materials
We Use FSC Checked Timbers
At Historic Joinery Yorkshire we consider ourselves to be eco aware and compassionate about the environment. The heritage joinery products we create are designed and made in house from locally sourced reclaimed woods and ecologically friendly timbers. When we must use new timber we aim to use woods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to ensure the materials which we use come from professionally managed forests providing sustainable sources.
The furniture, fixtures and fittings that we make should last a lifetime or more if cared for appropriately, but where necessary our products can be repaired, renovated or up-cycled as required, and at the end life they are 100% bio-degradable leaving no waste. In respect to waste, we strive to be as efficient as possible but byproducts are often a consequence of craftsmanship. Where we do have workshop waste it is recycled into products like sawdust.
