Bench Joinery

Bench joinery is the workshop craft of making timber components by hand — doors, frames, mouldings and fittings cut, shaped and assembled at the bench rather than off a production line.

It is how we make the bespoke replacement parts a restoration needs, and how we build new pieces to suit a heritage setting. Every component is made to measure, on the original profile, in matching timber.

What we do

Bespoke timber components — doors, frames, mouldings and fittings — made by hand at the bench to match a project exactly.

  • Bespoke timber doors and door frames
  • Window frames and casements made to match
  • Architectural mouldings, panelling and trim
  • Replacement components for restoration projects
  • Made-to-measure fittings in reclaimed or FSC-certified timber

How it works

From inspection to installation.

  1. 01

    Measure & draw

We measure the opening or original component and draw the piece to the right profile and proportions.

  2. 02

    Select timber

Matching timber is chosen so the new work sits well with the existing joinery.

  3. 03

    Make at the bench

Components are cut, shaped and assembled by hand, with turned elements made on the lathe where needed.

  4. 04

    Finish & fit

Each piece is treated, decorated to match and fitted on site.

Questions

Common questions

What is bench joinery?
Bench joinery is the making of timber components — doors, frames, mouldings and fittings — by hand at the workshop bench, as opposed to fitting them on site or buying mass-produced parts.
Can you make a component to match an existing one?
Yes. We measure and draw from the original, select matching timber, and make the replacement by hand on the original profile so it blends with the surrounding joinery.
