Heritage Joinery in Holme

Holme is the last village before the moor on the Holme Moss road — tight clusters of dark gritstone cottages, weavers' rows and Pennine farmsteads built to stand up to whatever the tops throw at them. Up here, exposed window cills, doors and casements take a beating, but the sound timber underneath is almost always repairable.

We travel up our own valley to Holme regularly, restoring windows, doors and timber detail and helping owners weatherproof their properties without losing the character of the building.

Local knowledge

Joinery that suits Holme

In a setting as exposed as Holme, discreet brush-pile draught-proofing built into a restored sash or casement makes a real difference to comfort and heat loss, while keeping the window fully operable and the original timber and glass in place.

Thick plank doors, mullioned window surrounds and heavy farmhouse joinery are common in the upper Holme Valley, all well suited to splicing and sympathetic bench repair just a short distance down the valley at the workshop.

Questions

Holme questions

Can you draught-proof exposed windows in Holme?
Yes. Holme's exposed moor-edge position makes draught-proofing especially worthwhile. We rout discreet brush-pile seals into restored sashes and casements to cut rattles and heat loss while keeping the window operable and the original timber and glass in place.
Do you cover the upper Holme Valley?
Yes. Holme, Holmbridge and the upper Holme Valley are only a short run up from our Honley workshop, so site visits and collections are simple to arrange with no travel premium for the area.
